Privacy policy

The short version: We collect as little as possible. What you send us is used to reply to you and for nothing else. Nothing is sold, shared or added to a mailing list. This site uses Google Analytics to count visits, and it only runs if you agree to it — decline and no cookies are set.

Who we are

Absolute Bookkeeping is an independent bookkeeping practice based in Hastings, East Sussex, licensed by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (Practice Licence No. 3503). Absolute Bookkeeping is the data controller for personal information collected through this website. What we collect, and why

If you use the contact form, we receive what you type into it: your name, your email address, your phone number if you give one, and your message. We use it to reply to you, and for nothing else. The lawful basis for this is legitimate interest: you've asked us something, and answering it means holding your details while we do.

If you ring or email directly, the same applies to whatever you choose to tell us.

Where your information goes

This site is hosted by Netlify, and the contact form runs on Netlify's form service; your submission is stored in our hosting account and sent on to our email.
The site's typefaces load from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests the font files from Google's servers when a page loads. Like any web request, Google can see your IP address when that happens.
If you accept cookies, Google Analytics receives the pages you view along with your approximate location, browser and device type. See the section below for what that involves.
That's the lot. No advertising networks, and nothing sold or shared with anyone else.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful. It is not essential to running the site, so nothing loads until you choose to allow it: when you first arrive you are asked, and if you decline, your browser never contacts Google Analytics and no analytics cookies are set. The lawful basis is your consent, which you are free to withhold.

If you accept, Google Analytics sets two cookies in your browser, _ga and _ga_2218VHSREV, which last up to two years and let it tell repeat visits apart from new ones. It records which pages you looked at, roughly where in the world you are, and what browser and device you used. Your IP address is anonymised before it is stored. We see visitor numbers and popular pages; we cannot identify you from it, and we do not use it for advertising.

Google Analytics is provided by Google, which may process this information outside the UK. Google's own privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy, and Google offers a browser opt-out at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

You can change your mind whenever you like using the link, which also appears at the foot of every page. Choosing to decline deletes the analytics cookies already in your browser. We ask again around every six months so that a choice you made long ago does not stand forever.

Beyond that, this site sets no cookies of its own: no advertising cookies and no tracking pixels.

If you become a client

Your bookkeeping records are a separate matter, covered by the engagement letter we both sign and by the confidentiality rules of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers. Records are kept for as long as tax law requires (normally six years) and then destroyed.

How long we keep enquiries

Messages from people who don't become clients are kept only while we're dealing with them, then deleted. If you ask, they go straight away.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email accounts@absolutebookkeeping.co.uk and we'll sort it out. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
